The Elder Scrolls Online: Wander Around Summerset - The New Expansion Area

Posted time: Apr 13,2018

As we have already known that the new expansion of The Elder Scrolls Online, Summerset, will come to us soon. Here is a quick look at the huge new area added in the latest expansion.

At this point, The Elder Scrolls Online is basically a completely different game to the one that was launched in 2014. After a difficult start, MMO managed to stabilize itself as a sturdy, engaging and fun pay-to-play MMO without a subscription - just buy the game once and you'll fall into its content, which varies from the typical multiplayer MMO shenanigans down to more  typically Elder Scrolls s tyle single-player quest lines.

After Morrowind's successful outing, ESO is moving on by revisiting another classic Elder Scrolls position - Summerset Isle, which made its debut in the 1994's The Elder Scrolls Arena. The Arena was obviously a very different game, but the new MMO version of the Summerset maintains the landmass recognizable and features a good number of nice little nods for Elder Scrolls lore nerds, although it is also built to be completely friendly for new players - this was confirmed by Bethesda when it announced its expansion a few weeks ago.

Just riding one of the all-new mounts being added to ESO around some of the absolutely huge landmass being added to the game. Summerset is a very big place with lots of smaller townships, caves, new characters and factions to meet, and a huge new city which we briefly run around in the video. Considering that we have only limited time to explore Summerset, we spend this in-game night dashing from one side of the island to the other, but it is very obvious: this is a substantial area full of content, and even in the early, slightly janky development build we got to play, it was absolutely filled with charm.

Summerset has a kind of verticality to it that many of the existing areas in The Elder Scrolls Online are lacking. The best example in its capital city is a sort of multi-leveled that was built around a towering castle. That looks particularly cool, and it should prove a nice change of scenery for existing players.

Newcomers will also get something from Summerset because, like Morrowind, extension will include a full set of introduction and tutorial missions set up in the new areas. This basically means that if you participate in the game with Summerset or start a new character, you can browse the introduction phase of the game with a special zone-unique intro sequence and mission strand where a strange woman known as Oriandra seems to have great things in store for you. This led to Summerset's unique new featured plot line.

If you come to it as an experienced player, you can jump straight into the storyline, while new players can also travel back to older areas of ESO and experience stories and quests that have been adjusted to match their character's level. Everyone said that it looked like a pretty good deal - which was true of ESO with Morrowind, to be honest.

More content will never be a bad thing, and we are looking forward to running Summerset properly after it releases in May.
