WOW: I be away from WOW for long

Throughout every gamer’s life there will always be one game that will be etched in his mind. For me this was world of warcraft also commonly referred to as WOW by its loyal followers. WOW was one of the most exhilarating, enjoyable games that I have come in contact with in my decade of gaming. My initial curiosity for WOW was aroused due my love of Warcraft 3 dota (defence of the ancients) which many people will know due its simple gameplay and the high level of competition it spawned. I began my journey on WOW with no intention of continuing it beyond the trial stages; however as any WOW player will tell you the trial stage is only the tip of the ice berg.

 
I started off with 10 day pass given to me by a friend who had just got into WOW. It starts off with short registration process and then straight into downloading of the game. I initially started off as an Alliance night elf being influenced by the black and white politics of Warcraft 3 I naturally picked the good guys. The starter areas were massive I had never really encountered any game that put so much effort into its tutorial areas. As you complete quest after quest the monotony that comes with any MMORPG settles in. I was contemplating giving up the game as reaching the level cap seemed impossible. However with the aid and a little encouragement from fellow guild members I managed to press on.

I realised that each side had its own perspective of the world on Azeroth and found the players in the horde more friendly and mature.  After a speedy levelling process with my new character Toban a troll shaman a class I madly fell in love with I met my second guild Legion Ex Mortis. It was during this time period that I able to fully grasp the game in its entirety. When you hit the level cap you tend to realize that the starter levels are only a tease in comparison. It was at this point that economy settles. The fact that the gold made from quests become redundant and the only money making process is to excel at a given trade profession. So I found myself from dawn to dusk at the computer collecting raw materials and turning them into goods sold on the auction house. After experiencing the majority of the end game content and reaching some of the highest dungeons available I reduced my game time and awaited the upcoming release of the third expansion rise of the Lich King. It is at this point you realize how much heavy the monthly fees and time consumption a MMO can take in relative to an offline game. However with the third expansion Cataclysm in sight I doubt I’ll be away from WOW for long.
