The Secret World General Review

May 15,2012

After playing The Secret World beta this weekend there were plenty of secrets uncovered. However, one of the things that stood out the most to me about the game was how it created the mood and atmosphere of the world. Even being set in our time and our world, it does an amazing job of setting the mood for the players.

Once your character is created you are put into a short cut scene on how you got your the secret wolrd power leveling. You have not even mapped out your abilities yet, and right away your character is shown with an infinite amount of potential. I don’t want to spoil things for players but the game puts you in the mood to go and harness this new found power.

As an Illuminati player I was instantly transported to the streets of New York City. Since I grew up about twenty minutes outside of New York, it is quite easy to recognize my home turf. One of the great parts in the zone is that they don’t show you the glitz and glam New York, but the underbelly of society. The zone is a mix of seedy back alleys and quiet conversations in corners. Living here for many years, this is everywhere in New York, except maybe Time Square and Broadway now-a-days. Being transported into this world now makes me want to find the Illuminati and figure this place out.

Before I knew it I was listening to a crazy Laundry Mat owner about all kinds of conspiracy theories. He rants on and on about the government and its ties to the supernatural, even with a great joke about Disneyland. Once he puts you on your path you are sent to find the Illuminati headquarters, which is no easy task. I mean honestly it is low level, so it isn’t too hard, but just enough to give you the sense of how secret this organization is. That aspect of the game for the Illuminati is what makes the secret wolrd power leveling so cool. There are symbols within symbols within graffiti on the walls. Just the way something as conspiracy theory-bound as the Illuminati should be.

The Secret World does a few things with its mechanics which are very cool. First, they allow the player total freedom; I spent about thirty minutes trying out all the weapons before I chose one.  You know from the weirdness around you that you will be battling some pretty heavy stuff. It made me want to test my skills more in the game. After running the Tokyo Flashback instance I really wanted to think about how to spec out my character. It felt very different than any other MMO.

This alternate choice from my normal style characters made me think right away. Then I realized the game itself presents that alternate world to you. One thing The Secret World definitely gets right is story. Story has been focused on by AAA MMOs ever since Star Wars was in development and BioWare started pushing the story angle. However, in Star Wars it was rather cliché. You knew what you were getting into with the secret wolrd power leveling. The Secret World does an amazing job with story because you don’t know what you are getting into.

The setting of this game will latch onto players quickly as you will want to find out the secrets hidden for you. There are events and things going on that will bring players in and make them want to find the answers. This element to the game drives the story very well. The Secret World does an amazing job of setting up the atmosphere for the player. It is horror, mystery, and action all wrapped in one.

Secret World Open-Beta Rakes In One-Million Sign-Ups

May 11,2012

EA and Funcom are proud to announce how the Secret World open-beta weekend has currently garnered additional than one-million beta sign-ups, even additional than when Funcom experienced a comparable beta weekend for their other MMO, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures.

Funcom SVP of product sales & Marketing, Morten Larssen commented inside the press release, saying...
"Shattering our earlier beta documents provides us excellent wish for that solution World’s start and its future,” ... "Combining this optimistic amount using the great suggestions we have been given from the two beta testers as nicely as the press which have performed the game, make us quite optimistic for any prosperous start within the Secret World power leveling.”

The online game sports activities a free-form character leveling system, so gamers can use swords, guns, beauty or telekinesis as they please, mixing and matching powers in contrast to loads of other class-restricted MMOs. Inside of a way, the character progression is comparable to DC Universe over the internet or even the premium edition of Champions Online.

In add-on towards free-form character progression the online game capabilities 3 unique factions who will fight it out for manage within the world, such as PVP arenas for as a good deal as 100 players. This adds a hint of replay ability towards game, offered that every single faction will goal to vie for manage more than specific territories, which carry their personal advantages and bonuses to that side. Some gamers have expressed reservations concerning the game's prospective end-game written content and whether or not the a subscription price will eventually be justified, but you seriously won't have the ability to inform right up until individuals attain the finish and give some suggestions about the Secret World power leveling.

Who Wins - Guild Wars 2 VS TERA?

May 04,2012

Class Progression

TERA truly does not provide a great deal with the method of class-differentiation. The accurate distinction among courses in TERA arrives with the type of how each and every school plays entirely several in combat. You receive crystals to slot out weapons and armor with bonus stats, and you also get glyphs to tweak expertise from degree 20+. But by and big the Lancer’s heart expertise and method of actively playing stays exactly the same among players, with crystals and glyphs becoming the customized component of your perform experience. So if you are the kind of participant who truly would like to alter the way in which your character plays, TERA will not necessarily function for you. If however, you are supposed to be about min-mixing? nicely then, En Masse’s game is up your alley.

GW2 on the other hand? Using the several weapons, the various dozen expertise on each and every class, and also the capability to trait your character right into a entirely several play-style? Well, I believe we see who has the borders here. Personally, I’d consider GW2’s school progression any day. But I wonder how huge of the harmony burden it would be in PVP, and for that TERA has the upper hand in at the very least the cut-throat category. Still, I believe I’d have at the very least liked the capability to tweak my character’s expertise and capabilities a tad much more in TERA power leveling. It is undoubtedly a missing element of MMORPG design. And offered GW2’s standard notion of entirely ditching the holy trinity, if you are the kind of participant who prefers unique roles inside your MMO, then TERA power leveling may be much more up your alley.

Quests and Adventure
This is an additional region by which a single game goes the attempted and accurate route, even though an additional tries to shake points up. There are a lot of individuals who declare the MMO pattern is not broken and does not require re-shaping. people individuals will very likely adore the questing in TERA, and loathe the all-public functions in GW2. But me? I fit up using the questing in TERA power leveling, nicely composed although it is, simply because the combat and party articles is enjoyable sufficient to obtain me via “kill this, and gather this”.

Now, do not get me wrong. GW2’s functions are nevertheless about killing and collecting, but like WoW do in 2004, it is a refinement belonging to the mechanic that disguises the “quest grind” in the way that creates it really feel new, different, and altogether fun. I also adore how GW2 puts a participant with the globe of Tyria and says “Go come across stuff to do.” The explorer in me loves that. And even though I adore the stunning globe of TERA’s Arborea, there’s a great deal much less concentrate on exploration. it is large and pretty, however the articles directs you via the zones by way of quest hub, and as an MMO veteran, GW2’s strategy is just much more novel and interesting. TERA’s power leveling arrives in the actuality the fact that dungeons certainly are a blast, the BAM’s certainly are a genuinely awesome representation of globe bosses, and there are available globe dungeons a la EQ1. I forgot how a great deal I missed them.

Combat
This is TERA’s huge win, certainly even with animation lock (which prevents the hacking and whatnot we saw in DCUO, through the way). GW2’s combat is nevertheless a lot of fun, do not get me wrong. It tweaks the common tab-target stuff sufficient to create it much much more fascinating than in video games like WoW or EQ2. as well as the dodge, after you study its importance, is recognised as a brilliant element to create combat appear much more active. But that does not end TERA’s “True actions Combat” from fairly a great deal creating all other MMOs’ combat appear infantile. There are other video games attempting it within the horizon (Raiderz stands out and is also F2P). But TERA truly does have an ace up their sleeve, and with much more different articles with the future, along with a concentrate on PVP, I can see En Masse’s game earning and maintaining a big hardcore crowd of gamers having a lust for participant versus player. Seriously, after you come across your class, the combat in TERA is light-years forward of something else within the market. GW2 is beneficial at it, but TERA power leveling is better.

Love or Hate Tera

May 02,2012

Not to be...stereotypical, but I think that Asian games have a certain art style flare to it that does not appeal to me.  In Tera, it is there but not that bad.  I think, like everyone else, the combat is amazing and makes grinding feel like not grinding(even though there is just as much grinding in this game as any other game, including all mighty WoW).  Quests are basic.  I do follow the story and lore.  The lore is OK at best, not terrible, not jaw dropping.  The cut scenes, after the Vekas cut scene (that was horrid), are pretty good.  The graphics are great, performance is great for the most part, even on my mid-level machine.

5 Things I love about Tera:

Combat - Very well done and polished.  A mix of nice offensive animations, chain skills and combos, as well as a nice mix of defensive abilities to get out of harms way.

BAMS - 'Nuff said.  First time I did a BAM that was the same tera power level as me, it got my heart pounding.  They are really well done.  I sometimes think that BAMs that are the same level as me, are a bit overtuned (at least for my measely Warrior trying to tank for my Archer buddy).  I just love the BAM fights, and will have a blast BAM hunting and getting all of the solo achieves eventually.

Graphics,World,Ambience - Everything that is around you, the sounds, graphics, etc, just emmerse you.  I truely feel part of the world.  Not to mention, in town, NPCs that really mean nothing to me in terms of leveling and questing are busy bees going about their day.

Crafting - I thought crafting in WoW was SO boring.  I think crafting in Rift is ridiculously time consuming, boring, and difficult.  Crafting in tera is VERY nicely done.   While out in the world I find MORE than enough nodes to level crafting with tera power leveling.  Not to mention, I almost feel that the buffs you receive from gathering a node are a must have.  Reduces downtime so much.

Velika - The major city is growing on me.  They could add a few more NPCs walking around, but it is a huge gorgoeus city, with an awesome area to craft.  I also like the fact that if I am just sitting there, I hear wind blowing.  I know it is a small thing to notice and appreciate but it makes me feel like I am actually there.  Other than hearing random chatter that I cannot make out, just the simpleness of wind blowing makes you feel like you are in the world.

5 Things I dislike/wish would improve

Female casting animations - Why did they need to make female casting animations so...racy?  Some might like this, I think it is not needed in a game.  I havent rolled a female yet  because of this, and I usually do in MMOs.

Popori - What the heck are these things?  Marmits?  Racoons?  Pandas?  Why are they in the game?  They don't fit, in my opinion.  If I wanted a panda-like creature, Id have MIsts of Pandaria on pre-order, which I do not.

Female side saddle - So ridiculous.  Another reason why I havent rolled a female toon yet.

Death penalty- Wow, so this one is a big one.  You are fighting a BAM, you die, your group is struggling to survive.  If you cant get rezzed, you ressurect at the closest town, which is at best 4-5 minutes away from the fight.  Now, your stam is down and must sit by a campfire to regen, pay a cleric of restoration to restore it, use a pot, or go in without any stam.  Rezzing so far away from where you died is a GREAT deterrent not to die.  But it is SO annoying and it is a constant complaint in my guild.

Pegasus portal - As a kid, I had epilepsy.  I feel epileptic episodes (say that 10x fast) approaching when I enter a pegasus portal.  This is another common complaint in my guild.

While the above negatives are legit negatives, none of them are deal breakers for the game.  My guild from WoW has almost entirely come over for Tera, even though they will be heading back to WoW for Mistst (at least for a while until they realize how much better Tera power leveling is than WoW, and WoW is old).

Just one more negative to add: Class variety.  There needs to be another caster dps, with different spells than the sorc.  And another positive, chaining skills together such as Combative strike-Traverse Cut-Blade Draw, or Triple Nemesis-whatever that spell is my priest just got...Really fun stuff.

I love Tera.

Tips to Tera Enchanting

Apr 25,2012

Certain items are "primed," meaning that in addition to already cool abilities, you can enchant them for even more powers. These weapons are found or created "enigmatic," — use an identification scroll available from any general vendor to discover their true abilities and potential.

Using a bonding agent also available from the vendor, you can combine a primed item and item of the same grade and type (weapons for weapons, armor for armor) through the enchanting interface (T).

If successful, your item's tera power leveling and stats will increase, unlocking new abilities.

One of the first things you need to do before you attempt to enchant an item is to make sure you can even enchant that item.  While in some MMOs you can enchant any item you come across, the same cannot be said for TERA. You are not even guaranteed to be able to enchant all items that are uncommon (green) or rare (blue) quality items. Some greens items can be enchanted, some blue items can be enchanted. In the item description it will tell you if it is enchantable, extractable, and remodelable. It can be any combination of those 3 or none of them at all. This line will also list what tier the item belongs in.

After you have decided what item you would like to enchant, you will need to go to a vendor and buy Alkahest which is the consumable used in the enchanting process.

After you have found your grassy knoll to craft on you can either open up the enchanting window through the systems navigation menu or you can open it up with the default hot key T to open up your enchanting window which looks like a funky jukebox that has 3 boxes in it, an anvil, and two hammers.  In the middle box will go the item you are enchanting.  Flanked by the box on the right will go the Alkahest and on the left will go the item you are sacrificing to the +1 gods. After you have placed all the materials in their boxes you will have to click the confirmation window.  And then the two little hammers will beat the heck out of your items.  When the hammers are done you will probably have a +1 item and congratulations are in order because you have also earned an achievement: You and Your Plus One.

At +1 this weapon gained 6 attack, and 13 extra damage.  After we enchant this weapon a few more times at +3 it has gained 19 attack, 41 Extra Damage and earned the first enchantment bonus with Tera power leveling. For this weapon it is 4.5% more damage when attacking small monsters. Also if this is the first time you have enchanted a weapon to +3, congratulations again.  You just earned another achievement: On the Plus Side.

Aside from the removal of the level decrease on failure, you will also need different types of dust the higher your + enchant is. Alkahest will get you up to +6, but you will need other dusts to get to +9, and another still to get to +12. In addition to this, there needs to be an elected Vanarch around to enable the shops to sell these dusts.

On top of this, the “Enigma” has been removed from dropped items. You get them already with a set of stats. If you want to change these around, you will need a scroll that puts the enigma on them, and then reidentify it.

You get a chance to click on the stats you like and keep em before you make it enigmatic again, and evnetually you can have your ideal stats on the item of your choice.
