| Not to be...stereotypical, but I think that Asian games have a certain art style flare to it that does not appeal to me. In Tera, it is there but not that bad. I think, like everyone else, the combat is amazing and makes grinding feel like not grinding(even though there is just as much grinding in this game as any other game, including all mighty WoW). Quests are basic. I do follow the story and lore. The lore is OK at best, not terrible, not jaw dropping. The cut scenes, after the Vekas cut scene (that was horrid), are pretty good. The graphics are great, performance is great for the most part, even on my mid-level machine.
5 Things I love about Tera:
Combat - Very well done and polished. A mix of nice offensive animations, chain skills and combos, as well as a nice mix of defensive abilities to get out of harms way.
BAMS - 'Nuff said. First time I did a BAM that was the same tera power level as me, it got my heart pounding. They are really well done. I sometimes think that BAMs that are the same level as me, are a bit overtuned (at least for my measely Warrior trying to tank for my Archer buddy). I just love the BAM fights, and will have a blast BAM hunting and getting all of the solo achieves eventually.
Graphics,World,Ambience - Everything that is around you, the sounds, graphics, etc, just emmerse you. I truely feel part of the world. Not to mention, in town, NPCs that really mean nothing to me in terms of leveling and questing are busy bees going about their day.
Crafting - I thought crafting in WoW was SO boring. I think crafting in Rift is ridiculously time consuming, boring, and difficult. Crafting in tera is VERY nicely done. While out in the world I find MORE than enough nodes to level crafting with tera power leveling. Not to mention, I almost feel that the buffs you receive from gathering a node are a must have. Reduces downtime so much.
Velika - The major city is growing on me. They could add a few more NPCs walking around, but it is a huge gorgoeus city, with an awesome area to craft. I also like the fact that if I am just sitting there, I hear wind blowing. I know it is a small thing to notice and appreciate but it makes me feel like I am actually there. Other than hearing random chatter that I cannot make out, just the simpleness of wind blowing makes you feel like you are in the world.
5 Things I dislike/wish would improve
Female casting animations - Why did they need to make female casting animations so...racy? Some might like this, I think it is not needed in a game. I havent rolled a female yet because of this, and I usually do in MMOs.
Popori - What the heck are these things? Marmits? Racoons? Pandas? Why are they in the game? They don't fit, in my opinion. If I wanted a panda-like creature, Id have MIsts of Pandaria on pre-order, which I do not.
Female side saddle - So ridiculous. Another reason why I havent rolled a female toon yet.
Death penalty- Wow, so this one is a big one. You are fighting a BAM, you die, your group is struggling to survive. If you cant get rezzed, you ressurect at the closest town, which is at best 4-5 minutes away from the fight. Now, your stam is down and must sit by a campfire to regen, pay a cleric of restoration to restore it, use a pot, or go in without any stam. Rezzing so far away from where you died is a GREAT deterrent not to die. But it is SO annoying and it is a constant complaint in my guild.
Pegasus portal - As a kid, I had epilepsy. I feel epileptic episodes (say that 10x fast) approaching when I enter a pegasus portal. This is another common complaint in my guild.
While the above negatives are legit negatives, none of them are deal breakers for the game. My guild from WoW has almost entirely come over for Tera, even though they will be heading back to WoW for Mistst (at least for a while until they realize how much better Tera power leveling is than WoW, and WoW is old).
Just one more negative to add: Class variety. There needs to be another caster dps, with different spells than the sorc. And another positive, chaining skills together such as Combative strike-Traverse Cut-Blade Draw, or Triple Nemesis-whatever that spell is my priest just got...Really fun stuff.
I love Tera.
